Traces

Ghosts roam this city
Forever leaving traces behind
Pieces of their lives
Yet we never know
Who they belong to
Why they left them
What they meant.

They are forever anonymous.

European Masters: Städel Museum 19th-20th Century, National Gallery of Victoria

Again, yet another amazing showcase of Art at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
Not my favourite collection of works, but nonetheless I appreciated it.
Max Beckmann's works were incredible. A whole room dedicated to the artist was a top curatorial decision.
It still astounds me, however, that people will stand in front of an artwork for 15 minutes just because it's Renoir or Picasso and they seem to think that spending that amount of time will help them better grasp what the artist is communicating. Essentially they dislike the work. How odd.

Song to the Siren

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Till your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle.

And you sang
Sail to me
Sail to me
Let me enfold you.

Here I am,
Here I am.
Waiting to hold you.

I'm as puzzled as the new born child
I'm as troubled as the tide
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or should I lie with death my bride?

Here me sing
Swim to me.
Swim to me
Let me enfold you

Here I am.
Here I am.
Waiting to hold you.

At the Dead of Night.
